About

I created this blog as an extension of the weather update emails I started sending to a small group of family, friends, and coworkers in late 2019. All of my emails will now post to this blog. On here you'll also find various weather products and maps that I think you'll find useful. Most of my readers are located in the Florida Panhandle with a handful scattered north through Alabama and Tennessee, hence the "Deep South" in the name even though I currently don't cover the entirety of what is considered the Deep South. The area I cover is what one person called the "Southeast Heartland Corridor." So when I use the word Heartland, the area described above is what I'm referring to.

My interests are tropical and severe weather so most of my posts will be related to those two topics. I will also post updates about the general weather going out about a week or week and a half once or twice a week.

I have been a weather enthusiast as long as I can remember. In the fall of 2018 I decided to focus this enthusiasm by pursuing a Master of Science in Geosciences with a concentration in Applied Meteorology through Mississippi State University's distance education program. I hope to complete the program during the summer 2021 term and also earn a Geospatial and Remote Sensing minor along the way.

While I may occasionally share my opinion or state what I think none of the posts here are intended to be forecasts. For decision making, especially for decisions regarding safety of life and property, please consult official sources such as the National Weather Service. My intent is twofold: to inform people of upcoming weather and to provide a means for me to practice looking at all of the things forecasters look at to make a forecast. I'll also occasionally take the opportunity to educate my readers on basic weather terminology and phenomena as well as to explain some of the forecasting tools that the average person may encounter on a day-to-day basis. This I call the "Weather Nerd Corner." Ultimately I hope you all enjoy reading my posts.

I live in the Florida Panhandle with my wife, two wonderful sons, and a host of pets. We are your typical working family with our joys and struggles and we wouldn't be where we are without God's grace and our faith in Christ. I have an excellent career with an offshore oil and gas services company as an engineer that I'm thankful for.

You can find me on Twitter @DeepSouthWXUS and you can email me by clicking here. I would love to hear any comments, suggestions, or requests you have. I'm working on adding a subscription feature but until I get one working send me an email if you want to be added to my email list.

Thanks for reading!

Chris
