March 2, 2020
Synopsis: it'll be rainy through mid week as a couple of systems move through, with a severe threat today through Thursday. Temps will start out warm and then cool a bit as each system passes through with cool air remaining through the weekend. The weekend looks nice, rain will be returning on Monday or early Tuesday to start next week.
I apologize that it's been a little while since I've posted an update. There wasn't anything significant to report and I've been a bit busier.
Folks from the Alabama line north probably noticed rain move in overnight. Except for along the coast, which will be mostly dry until late tomorrow, expect rain to hang around until Tuesday afternoon when you may get a little break. Areas toward the coast will see the second round of rain first as it moves in late Tuesday or early Wednesday. By Wednesday morning rain will be spreading north eventually reaching Tennessee by late Wednesday or early Thursday. Things will finally start to clear west to east on Thursday or overnight into early Friday. Several inches of rain are forecast through 5 days so flooding could be a concern. Rain returns late next Monday or Tuesday as mentioned with a slight chance of frozen precip for northern Alabama and central/eastern Tennessee next Wednesday and Thursday.
Severe weather is possible today through Thursday. Note from the maps below that the threat area and risk level changes from day to day. There is somewhat of a threat later today and overnight for northwest Alabama. Hail and wind are the main threats but tornadoes can't be ruled out. I think the most significant threat will be on Wednesday overnight into Thursday near the coast as shown in the Day 3 graphic with all severe modes possible. I'll provide updates as we learn more. The severe threat has been evolving over time so keep alert for watches and warnings in case things change. Right now I don't think we're looking at a major event for any day but stay prepared.
There's not much more to say about temps. After the cool down toward the end of the week and through the weekend temps look to be right around average or above for this time of the year through next week. As always keep in mind that things can change a lot out beyond 3-5 days.
You'll hear from me again in a day or two as the severe threat evolves.
Have a great week.
